Live online classes take place at 6pm Central Europe / 9am Pacific Time on Sunday October 8, 15, and November 19. Classes are 90 minutes in duration. Recordings of both the 2022 and the 2023 series will be available to stream until January 1, 2024!
This class series specifically focuses on exploring some rhythms that tend to be a bit trickier for the dancer’s ear. Let’s get fancy!

As raqs sharqi dancers, it’s important we work on our musicality so we can better understand and interpret the music that we dance to. If we are not from Middle Eastern or North African countries, this can mean spending a bit of extra time getting used to new sounds!
And what better way to learn about and embody rhythms than working with a live drummer? Now you’ll have the opportunity to do so from your own home!
Join Issam Houshan and Siobhan Camille as they break down some of the more complex or unusual rhythms used in raqs sharqi over 3 weeks. You’ll learn the rhythms from Issam, and Siobhan will teach combinations and improvisation exercises to help you feel the rhythm in your body. There will also be plenty of chances to freestyle, and you’ll get the chance to put what you’ve learned into practise by dancing to live drum solos played by Issam Houshan!
